WHAT LEAD ME TO BUY A OPTIBIKE by Andy
(Part 1)

I love cycling however it is one of those sports that requires a lot of time and time is in short supply. I work 40 mile from home and I have been trying to cycle it on a normal bike. However, it takes me anywhere between 2 and 2h 40, depending on which way the wind is going, so 80 miles each day. It was impossible for me to do it everyday as I had to be up for 5 o clock and and then would be home at 7 and with a young baby it was too much and actually having to work as well it was nearly impossible.

As I have a baby now, I love spending time with him and with my wife and do not have time to do much training at all. In my work I need to be very fit and find it difficult to do enough training. I enjoy time trialing and cycle racing and I would like to combine my commuting and training to do it all in one.

Fuel prices have hit the roof and it costs me so much to get to work and with my time constraints I wanted to combine my commute and my training together. I am also keen on doing my bit for the environment.

WHY OPTIBIKE

I needed to reduce my time cycling to work as I could get more sleep. I could have brought a scooter but I want the training value. I have looked at a lot of electric bikes and none of them were fast enough or had the distance. I then clicked on to the optibike.com website and that impressed me, however at that time there was not an easy way to get hold of one and they cost a fortune. So I went back to trawling the net again but still kept coming back to the Optibike web site, it was here that I found out that Team Hybrid were importing the bikes.

Lets face it you could by a car with the amount of money it costs to buy the Optibike. however everything on a car is going up from the cost of fuel, tax etc. I am happy with my car so it can do another year. (I hope)

For this bike to pay for itself I need to do a year and a half of travelling to work, however I also go and see friends on it as well so it will be shorter than that.

BUYING OPTIBIKE

I approached team hybrid but at the time the bikes were not in the country so I had to wait. I was still nervous about the money and was looking for something cheaper. Fuel prices went up again desperate to get some more training, I had a rush of blood and put a deposit down on it.

BUYING THE OPTIBIKE

I had to do a 7 hour journey to Portsmouth which was gruelling in itself but I am glad that I did as the bike was set up for me and it was simply about trying it and meeting the the people who were very helpful. I would advise getting the bike from Team Hybrid as I am no mechanic. I was still sceptical even at this stage and fully prepared to take it back as there is a satisfaction guarantee.

MY FIRST RIDE

Wow what a ride, all I can say it is like being in a fast pack of cyclist, the breaks are great and I like the acceleration in and out of round about. The weather was fowl, windy and wet, not like it is in the American videos. I was surprised and loved the ride.
